Significance of prostate problems

The prostate is a glandular organ muscular reproductive tract, which is located below the bladder surrounding the urethra and near the rectum.

The urethra has two functions, the transport of urine from the bladder, and the conduct of semen during ejaculation. Semen consists of sperm and fluid from the prostate.

Prostate problems usually occur after age 50. In men over 50, the most common problem is prostate enlargement, or benign prostatic hyperplasia.

At older ages, also has prostate cancer incidence, but much smaller number of cases.

Different Prostate Problems:

Among the various prostate problems, the most common are the enlargement, prostatitis, and prostate cancer.
• Prostatitis: This is an inflammation of the prostate, which may experience swelling, redness, and fever, and other symptoms such as burning on urination, frequent need for urination, fever, tiredness. Some kinds of prostatitis are caused by bacteria and fight with specific antibiotics.
It can also be caused by physiological defect that facilitates bacterial infections, and must be corrected by surgery.

Another cause may be kidney stones and cancer. In these cases, no antibiotic treatment used.
Another medication that can be used are alpha blockers which serve to relax the muscle tissue of the prostate.
• Enlarged Prostate:
 As men age, the prostate continues to grow, so it squeezes the urethra, the pressure tends to affect bladder control.
The symptoms of prostate enlargement are: the urge to urinate, difficulty starting urination, reduced force to the stream of urine and a smaller volume of liquid. Sense of urgency that persists after the evacuation, dribbling after urination, occasional drops of blood in the urine. Symptoms vary with each individual.
The origin of this condition does not necessarily indicate the presence of cancer because most cases of enlargement, not accompanied by cancer, but as the symptoms are similar, it is necessary to consult with your doctor to rule out that possibility.
An enlarged prostate is not a serious disease, unless symptoms are particularly bothersome, but the condition can cause major problems such as urinary tract infections.

There are several tests used to detect the enlargement of the prostate: rectal examination, blood test (to detect the presence of cancer is not very accurate), diagnostic imaging, uroflowmetry, cystoscopy.
The treatment of prostate problems, enlarged, with regular monitoring can be done to avoid medication if symptoms do not impair the quality of life, medication, using different medications, surgery.
